The dolphin The Dolphin vase Middle Kingdom Source: Janine Bourriau: The Dolphin vase from Lisht Dolphins abound in the Mediterranean and were often depicted in Minoan and Greek art, but they had little impact on the ancient Egyptian culture. Egypt was centered around the Nile rather than the sea. It should come as no surprise, though, that it was a Lower Egyptian nome, the sixteenth with its capital at Mendes, that was named Dolphin.
